ABOUT THE CONTEST
The Celluloid Social Club and William F. White International Inc. are proud to announce the launch of the 8th Annual Hot Shot Shorts Contest for 2016.
The purpose of the Contest is to provide sponsorship and monetary support to an exceptional local short film script that might not otherwise have the opportunity to be made into a film. The Contest was founded by Ed Brando (William F. White International Inc.), Paul Armstrong (Celluloid Social Club), Aaron Houston (‘Sunflower Hour’) & Scott Campbell.

CONTEST DETAILS
Submit a script up to 12 pages in standard script format.
Initial judging is based solely on the merits of the script and its film-ability with the contest’s resources. At this stage there is no need to package the film.
From the entries, 5 scripts will be selected to be read at a special Cold Reading Series event in late August.
The writers will then form a team of key crew (mandatory) and cast (optional as winner receives casting session) and then pitch the film to a panel of judges.
One winner will be announced in September. The winning film will be provided with approximately $20,000 worth of sponsored services and $6,500 in sponsorship cash plus 90% of Contest entry fees.
Production will take place over 2-3 days early in 2017 with post completed by May 2017 in time to submit to the Toronto and Vancouver International Festivals.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Submit a hard copy of the script in standard script format with synopsis and an Entry Form at an upcoming Celluloid Social Club with the applicable entry fee payable by cash or cheque made out to Ameland Films Inc.

THE FINE PRINT
- The winning team will enter into a Production Agreement (available upon request) with the Contest provider.
- Revenues from the winning film will be shared between the winning team and the Contest provider.
- 10% of entry fees will go towards operating the Contest with the remaining fees going to the winning film to cover hard costs.
- Some hard costs and all budget overages will be required to be incurred by the winning team.
- The winning team will have access to their own editing system.
- If you submitted in previous years you are allowed to submit the same script again only if it has been significantly changed.
- Current film students can submit but they must be finished their full time studies before the start of production.
- Past winners cannot submit again.
- Submissions will be judged in part on how well it features and benefits local BC talent, which is one of the goals of the Contest.
- the Production Company and the Producer(s) must be Canadian or have Permanent Resident status, and
- at least one of the Screenwriter OR the Director must be Canadian or have Permanent Resident status, and
- at least one of the two lead performers must be Canadian or have Permanent Resident status.
