The Celluloid Social Club is the longest running non-festival short film screening event in Vancouver with over 125 shows from 1997 to 2019, with a restart in 2024. The Club showcases the best in primarily local independent short form works by both experienced and up-and-coming talent in combination with filmmaker Q&As with lots of time for pre-show and post-show mingling and networking.
Many notable people have passed through its doors, from Robin Williams (actor), Justin Trudeau (current Canadian PM), Andrew Loog Oldham (The Rolling Stones manager), Gary Lockwood (actor), Rae Dawn Chong (actor), Moses Znaimer (broadcaster), Douglas Coupland (writer), William Gibson (writer) and legendary BC and Canadian directors from Bruce MacDonald, Anne Wheeler, Sandy Wilson, Mina Shum, Lynn Stopkewich, Bruce Sweeney, Ann Marie Fleming, Roger Larry, Zach Lipovsky…

New Supper Club hub = New event!
Announcing the launch of Celluloid Supper Club, presented in association with Celluloid Social Club and Shamshiri Caveman Restaurant.
On Sundays every so often, Celluloid Supper Club will invite a local filmmaker to present their feature film and give the audience a special peek behind the curtain. Screenings may include Behind the Scenes footage, pitch videos, a look at their earlier shorts work, and possibly even special guests; and will always incorporate thoughtful discussions, Q&As, networking, a chance to win prizes from local sponsors, a 50/50 raffle, and include a meal and drink with your ticket!
Hosted by local comedian Rachel Ruecker, the inaugural event we will be presenting Special Guest Joel Ashton McCarthy (founder Run N Gun) to screen his feature film SHOOTING: THE MUSICAL, preceded by his Crazy8s short I LOVE YOU SO MUCH IT’S KILLING THEM (for which he won the 2017 Leo Award for Best Direction in a Short Drama), followed by an in depth conversation and Q&A with Joel.
